High-Protein Masoor Dal (Red Lentil) Tadka

- Ginger10 g
- Cumin Seeds2 g
- Turmeric Powder2 g
- Coriander Powder2 g
- Garam Masala2 g
- Chili Powder1 g
- Cilantro10 g
- Water300 ml

Step 1: Rinse the masoor dal thoroughly under cold water. In a saucepan, combine the rinsed dal with 300ml water and a pinch of turmeric powder. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10-12 minutes, or until dal is tender and cooked through, stirring occasionally.

Step 2: While dal is cooking, prepare the tadka (tempering). Heat cooking oil in a separate small pan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter (1 minute).

Step 3: Add chopped onion and sauté until golden (3-4 minutes). Add grated ginger, minced garlic, and green chili (if using), sauté for another minute.

Step 4: Add chopped tomato, remaining turmeric powder, coriander powder, and chili powder. Cook, mashing the tomatoes occasionally, until the mixture is soft and the oil separates (5-6 minutes).

Step 5: Pour the prepared tadka into the cooked dal. Stir in garam masala and fresh cilantro. Mix well and serve hot.
