Seared Steak with Roasted Broccoli and Garlic Rice

Ingredients (Serves 1)

steak, top round or sirloin, raw210 g
broccoli florets150 g
garlic, minced10 g
cooked rice120 g
olive oil18 ml
salt2 g
black pepper2 g

Instructions

Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F).

Toss the broccoli florets with 5 ml of olive oil, half of the salt, and half of the black pepper on a baking sheet. Roast for 15-20 minutes, or until tender and slightly browned.

Pat the steak dry and season generously with the remaining salt and black pepper.

Heat 8 ml of olive oil in a cast-iron skillet or oven-safe pan over high heat until shimmering.

Carefully place the steak in the hot pan and sear for 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare, or adjust time for desired doneness.

While the steak rests for 5-10 minutes, heat the remaining 5 ml of olive oil in a small pan over medium heat.

Add the minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

Add the cooked rice to the garlic oil and stir to combine and heat through.

Slice the rested steak. Serve the sliced steak alongside the roasted broccoli and garlic rice.
